Flatwoods
are open woodlands that appear on nearly level plains and are
dominated by pine trees. They are one of the most diverse associations
found in Florida, as well as the most common. In a representative
flatwoods parcel there may be as many as 140 plant species. This
book contains profiles of 51 of those species, with botanical
description, range, seasonality, protected status, ecological
significance, human news, scientific name derivation, and miscellaneous
notes for each. Each profile is accompanied by a botanical illustration
and a photograph.
